Privacy and data
You see what concerns your company. People stay protected.
The principle
The documents in OwlyScan were published by ransomware groups. They often contain the names of people who have nothing to do with you. OwlyScan shows your company’s records as they are, and hides names in the rest.
What you see
- Records that are yours (your domain, addresses on it, your company names) are shown as they are. In your records, passwords and hashes are masked: only their length and at most their first two characters show.
- Likely yours: a record that probably concerns you, without certainty, or that a search for a brand linked to your company finds. Company, brand and domain names show; people’s names, contact details, account and ID numbers, passwords and hashes stay hidden. It may concern another company.
- Everything else always has its names hidden. When your search holds your own name, your domain or a brand linked to your company, its dates, amounts and towns stay. Otherwise only its field names and your search words show.
- Searches for a person (a name, an email address, a phone number or a handle) get counts only, on every plan.
- Excerpts only. No full document and, for records that are not yours, no web address or file name.
In the free search
Without an account, you see the kind, format, channel and indexing date of each match, and your keywords in context. The rest is hidden blocks.
How we know what is yours
From your verified work email we take your domain. From your website we take the names your company uses, and you choose which to keep. You sign a search mandate that covers exactly these. You can read it and download it at any time.
When you use an AI
The AI you connect receives the same excerpts you would see in the app, with the same names hidden. Check its answers against the excerpts.
