Limits and quota

One counter for the app, the API and your AI.

100 searches a week

Access includes 100 searches per account per calendar week. The week starts on Monday at 00:00, Paris time. The app, the API and your AI use the same counter.

What counts as one search

  • One search is one distinct query.
  • A count and a search of the same query within 20 minutes are one search, shared by the app, the API and your AI. Over MCP, that is count_results and search_tor.
  • Paging through the results of a query within 20 minutes is free.
  • Reopening a past search is free for 90 days, as of its date. It never counts as a search. In the app it is the list Your searches, and in the API the /page route. API keys.
  • To see what is new, search again. It counts as a search once the 20 minutes have passed.
  • A query that is blocked costs nothing, and neither does a refused field filter.
  • If the index fails to answer, the search is handed back.

At most 500 results shown

Access shows the first 500 results of a search, in the app and in the API. The total stays the real count. Beyond 500, the API answers 400 AccessLimit and nothing is counted. To reach further, make the query more precise with more words.

When you reach the limit

  • In the app, the screen tells you the limit is reached and when it resets.
  • In your AI, the tool returns an error saying the weekly limit is reached, with the reset time.
  • In the API, the search route answers 429 with resets_at, the reset time in UTC, and a Retry-After header.

The free search is separate

The free search on owlyscan.com has its own limit: 3 searches a day per connection. It does not use your weekly quota. The free search.

Other limits

  • A query is at most 300 characters in the free search.
  • If many searches run at the same moment, some answer “too many requests”. Wait a few seconds and retry once.
  • One seat per account.
