The free search
Search without an account. You see what exists, not the text of it.
What you get
Type a word, a domain or a company name on the search page. You see how many documents match, split by kind, and up to six cards.
What a card shows
- the kind of document (an invoice, a contract, an email…) and its format;
- the channel it was published on;
- the date it was indexed;
- the first 6 characters of the .onion address of the site;
- your keywords, with one ordinary word on each side. Everything else is a hidden block.
A long list is capped for display: a count above 50,000 reads “>50,000”. To read your own records as they are, and the others with names hidden, create your Access.
Three searches a day
- You get 3 searches a day per connection. They come back at midnight UTC.
- Repeating a search you already ran today is free, and so are the “Try” examples.
- A search that ran nothing does not use one. That covers a refused search, a rejected one and one that failed.
- When you reach the limit, the page says so and offers Access to keep searching.
When a search is refused
The page always says why. These are the cases:
- Empty search. Type something to look for.
- Over 300 characters. Shorten it.
- A field filter such as
file:orurl:. Filters are part of Unlimited. Search the words alone. Syntax. - A topic we never search, for legal reasons. The search is not run and does not use one of your three.
- A person. If the search looks like a person’s name, an email address, a phone number or a handle, the free search shows only how many documents mention it. This protects people. It uses one search.
- Too many searches in a short time. Wait the time shown and try again. It does not use one of your three.
- Search unavailable. Try again shortly. It does not use one of your three.
Some documents may be hidden by our content policy, or not checked in time. The page tells you how many.
