Connect your AI

Your AI searches OwlyScan for you and summarises what it finds.

The server URL

OwlyScan is an MCP server. Add it to your AI app with this URL:

MCP server URL
https://backend.owlyscan.com/mcp/v1

Claude Desktop and claude.ai

  1. In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector and paste the URL above.
  3. Sign in with your work email when your browser asks. That is all.

Claude Code

Add the server from your terminal:

Terminal
claude mcp add --transport http owlyscan https://backend.owlyscan.com/mcp/v1

Then open the /mcp command in Claude Code and choose OwlyScan to sign in with your work email in the browser.

With an API key instead

For a script or a program, an owly_ key works on this same MCP endpoint and on the search route. Create the key in the app. API keys. Treat it like a password.

In Claude Code, add the key as a header. --header "X-API-Key: owly_YOUR_KEY" works too.

Claude Code with a key
claude mcp add --transport http owlyscan https://backend.owlyscan.com/mcp/v1 \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer owly_YOUR_KEY"

For the .mcp.json file or the settings of Claude Code, the entry looks like this:

JSON configuration
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "owlyscan": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://backend.owlyscan.com/mcp/v1",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer owly_YOUR_KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}

What your AI can do

An Access account has two tools:

  • count_results gives the number of documents that match a query and how they split by channel.
  • search_tor returns a page of results as excerpts, each with its channel and date, and says how much of each you may read: yours, likely yours, names hidden or values hidden.

There is no tool to open a full document. Excerpts are all there is, so ask your AI to quote from them and not to guess beyond them. Documents that are not yours show no web address and no file name. In your records, passwords and hashes are masked: only their length and at most their first two characters show.

Good habits

  • Ask it to count first, then to search once the count is reasonable.
  • Give it your domain and your company names.
  • count_results counts as one search. A search_tor of the same query within 20 minutes shares it, and paging through the results in that time is free.
  • Do not ask it to find a person: those queries return counts only.

If something goes wrong

  • Weekly limit reached. The tool says so and gives the time it resets. Limits.
  • Too many searches at once. Wait a few seconds and try once more.
  • A query we do not run. Rephrase it.
  • Subscription not active. Searches stop until it is. See billing.
  • No tools appear. Restart your AI app after adding the server.

Disconnecting

Open API keys and AI connection in the app. The AI apps you connected, such as Claude, are listed under Connected AI apps. Press Disconnect: it takes effect immediately. Where to find the page.
